Why Jinart Select
Jinart Select is an online gallery for carefully chosen art and artists. Every piece here has been personally selected by me. If it’s on this site, I believe in it.
The name says it simply: this is not a site that carries every piece I come across, or every artist who asks. It is selective by design. Quality over quantity has always guided my approach to work, whether in media or in art.
Why now
I came back to painting in 2020, during the Covid lockdown, after a gap of 30 years. Those three decades were spent in media — as co-founder of The Edge Malaysia and later heading the media business of Nexnews Bhd, which owned The Edge and theSun.
When I returned to the studio, I also returned to a question I had been sitting with for a long time: how do you make good art accessible to people who genuinely want to own it, without turning the whole thing into a transaction?
JinArt Select is my answer to that.
How it works
There is no shopping cart here. You browse, you find something that speaks to you, and you get in touch. We take it from there.
Before you commit, you have three ways to see a work up close: visit the gallery in person, request a video, or view it in your own space using AR through Artplacer. I want you to be sure before you decide.
Who you'll find here
The artists on this site are people whose work I know well and respect. Some are established. Some are less known but no less serious. What they have in common is that their work is worth your attention.
I will add artists over time, as I encounter work that meets the standard. There is no rush.
About me
I am a self-taught artist, 72, painting since the mid-1970s with a long interruption in between. My solo exhibitions have been held in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Lahore. My work has been reviewed in The Edge, Malay Mail, New Straits Times, Mashable and others.
I also run Jin’s Art Gallery in Kuala Lumpur, where I have curated exhibitions for other artists alongside my own shows.
